Target Audience

Students interested in neuroscience, molecular pathology, and neurodegenerative diseases; suitable for learners seeking an in-depth understanding of disease mechanisms and treatments

Application Deadline

Description

This 6-week online course explores the molecular pathology underlying neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s diseases. It covers cellular dysfunction, protein aggregation, genetic risk factors, and current as well as emerging treatment strategies. Students will learn through weekly sessions, analyzing pathological samples, discussing therapeutic advances, and linking molecular mechanisms to clinical outcomes. The course culminates in a student presentation and a short research paper or blog on a chosen topic. The group size is small (2-6 students) for personalized learning, led by Maria, a PhD candidate in Neuroscience at Tufts University. Sessions are held weekly on Tuesdays at 8:00 pm EDT / 5:00 pm PDT from June 10 to July 15, 2025.

Reasons to participate

Gain detailed understanding of neurodegenerative disease mechanisms at the molecular and cellular levels.
Explore genetic and environmental risk factors influencing disease progression.
Learn about current and novel therapeutic approaches, including drug development and alternative therapies.
Collaborate in a small group setting with expert mentorship.
Develop research and presentation skills through a final project.
